New Wine Description 8.14.13

Castelvecchio, Chianti, Fiorentini, Italy

·         90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot

·         Castelvecchio is a small, family-owned estate. The estate has been passed down through 5 generations.

·         Fiorentini is located in Central Italy, within Tuscany.

·         Chianti Colli Fiorentini is one of seven sub-zones of the Chianti DOCG. It is also one of the smallest DOCGs in Italy.

·         To be considered a Chianti, wines must be at least 70% Sangiovese. Sangiovese, a Tuscan grape, can be blended with other indigenous red grapes, like Canaiolo. International varietals, like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon cannot comprise more than 30% of the wine

·         Tasting notes: Moderately aromatic notes of dark, ripe fruits and an underlying earthiness. For a Sangiovese it is on the lighter side.  The light-medium bodied wine has a velvety texture with a pleasant acidity and gentle tannins.  In the mouth, juicy dark fruit notes are balanced by earthy notes of soil.  This is a very easy-going red wine that is excellent on its own or with food.
