Have You Met… Licor 43?
In 209
B.C. the Romans conquered the city of Quart Hadas, which lay in the center of
Carthaginian in the Mediterranean. They
discovered there a wonderous golden liquor. The Romans were very suspicious of
this strange drink, so they ban it from being sold. The local people began
making it in secret. Slowly but surely
it became the most popular drink amongst the highest strata of the Roman
people. They began exporting “Licor Mirabalis”, meaning marvelous liqueur to
other Roman cities in the Mediterranean. This is now what we call Licor 43 or
Cuarenta y tres.
The
recipe, containing 43 different ingredients, has been passed down from
generation to generation until 1924 when Diego Zamora Company bought it. It is
produced in Spain. 31% abv/ 62 proof.
Some refer to it as “The Spanish Smooth Temptation”
